About
PolMusicA builds upon the highly successful Ewa Malewicz Music Competition, established in 2004 by the Polish Community Council of Australia (PCCA).
Between 2004-2015, the Ewa Malewicz Music Competition was coordinated by the Polish Cultural Association in New South Wales.
In 2019, the PCCA transferred the management of the competition to the Society of Polish Culture (SoPC) in Victoria.
This annual competition for young pianists and violinists is open to young musicians (under seventeen years of age) of all cultural backgrounds living in Australia. It expanded to incorporate three distinct age groups for audition and public performance of Polish music (exclusively) from Chopin to the present. The competition has three stages: participant's video/sound recordings; live auditions and final performances in front of an audience at Deakin Edge, Melbourne.Youth awardees receive bursaries that will support their ongoing music and performance development.
PolMusicA concludes with the recently established (2019) Polish Music Day at which high profile musicians generously contribute and perform.
The aim of the competition is to promote the incredible history of Polish music and its possibilities and, most importantly, to broaden the music culture of young pianists and violinists.
PolMusicA creates an embracing and supportive environment in which developing musicians can be mentored whilst commencing or building public performance skills and experience.
